Hormone stimulation: what to expect

For many women the stimulation phase is the most nerve-racking part of the journey: two weeks of daily injections, check-ups and hoping for growing follicles. This guide tells you honestly what to expect.

Why stimulate?

The goal is simple: more mature eggs means a better chance of good embryos. Daily hormone injections (FSH) bring several follicles to maturity at once, while other medication prevents premature ovulation. Finally, the trigger injection completes maturation — exactly 36 hours before the retrieval.

Self-injecting gets familiar faster than you think

You give the injections yourself, into the skin of the abdomen, with very thin needles. The first time is nerve-racking; after one go it becomes routine. You receive clear instructions in advance, including videos that show step by step how to prepare and give the injection — so you can watch them again calmly at the moment you actually do it. And via WhatsApp you can always check whether you are doing it right.

Side effects: what is normal?

Bloating, tender breasts, mood swings and fatigue can occur — your body is doing months of work in two weeks. Severe overstimulation (OHSS) is rare, precisely because the dose is adjusted at every ultrasound check. With rapid weight gain, severe abdominal pain or shortness of breath, always contact us immediately.

Start at home, finish in Istanbul

At Human First you can start stimulation at home with your personal schedule and prescription, and travel to Istanbul on day 9 for the final checks, the retrieval and the transfer. That keeps your stay to about ten days.
