Frequently asked questions

Everything couples ask us most often — about the treatment, the costs, and your stay in Istanbul. Is your question not listed? Call us or send a WhatsApp message; we respond quickly and personally.

Treatment and journey

How long does an IVF journey in Turkey take?

A full journey in Istanbul takes around 18 days. If you start hormone stimulation at home, you fly out on day 9 and your stay is limited to about 10 days. For a PGT-M journey, allow around 20 days.

Is there a waiting list?

No. There is no waiting list, so you can start almost immediately — exactly when it suits you.

Can I start hormone stimulation at home?

Yes. You receive a personal treatment plan and medication prescription in advance, so you can start hormone stimulation at home. You then travel to Istanbul on day 9 of the treatment and your stay is limited to about 10 days — ideal if you can't be away from work or family for long.

How does the egg retrieval work?

Exactly 36 hours after the dual trigger injection, the retrieval takes place at Acibadem Hospital under light sedation. The eggs are brought together with the sperm cells in the IVF laboratory straight away.

How many embryos are transferred?

One or two embryos of the best quality are placed in the uterus. Transferring more embryos can be discussed with the doctor.

What happens after the transfer?

After the transfer you stay in Istanbul for one or more days: plenty of time to recover and enjoy the city a little longer. Once you are home, we stay in touch. About ten days after the transfer, your GP can arrange a blood test that measures your hCG level: the hormone that confirms a pregnancy. We discuss the result with you and keep supporting you up to week 12 of the pregnancy.

Which additional techniques are available?

Besides IVF/ICSI, the clinic offers PGT-M, PGT-A (€ 350 per embryo), MESA/PESA/TESE and Micro-TESE (€ 2,000), Sperm Chip (€ 350), cryotransfer (€ 800), assisted hatching (included) and AOA (free). See the treatments page for the full overview.

Costs and reimbursement

What does an IVF/ICSI treatment cost?

The medical treatment costs € 2,800, including doctor's fees, ultrasounds, semen analysis, egg retrieval under light sedation, laboratory, assisted hatching and embryo transfer. In addition, you pay journey guidance (€ 430), medication (around € 900 – € 1,500 depending on your protocol). Travel and accommodation you arrange yourself, or we send you a quote on request for our extra care package: hotel, airport transfers and a ride to every appointment. If you choose the 10-day journey, add the ultrasound scans at home — ideally three, arranged and paid for locally.

Are there hidden costs?

No. All rates are fixed in advance and published on our pricing page. You know exactly what the journey costs beforehand.

How does Turkey compare to Spain, Czechia or Cyprus?

An IVF/ICSI treatment through Human First costs € 2,800 including assisted hatching, compared to roughly € 3,600 – € 5,400 in Spain, € 2,500 – € 4,200 in Czechia and € 2,500 – € 3,600 in Northern Cyprus. On top of that, Human First arranges an interpreter on site and an extra care package with hotel and transfers including flight, hotel and transfers.

Practical matters and your stay

Do we need to be married for treatment in Turkey?

Yes. Turkish law only allows fertility treatment for couples who are legally married. You must be able to prove this on arrival.

Does the medical team speak English or Dutch?

Prof. Dr. Cem Demirel speaks good English, so your consultations with the doctor are in English. The nurses and the reception staff speak Turkish, not English. That is why we arrange an interpreter for you on site, free of charge — in English, or in another language if you prefer. They go with you to your appointments so nothing is lost in translation.

Where do we stay during the journey?

You stay at Antwell Suites, twelve minutes from Acibadem Hospital: a 54 m² suite with its own kitchen, a separate bedroom, an indoor pool and a wellness centre. Our driver takes care of all transfers between airport, hotel and clinic. If you have other wishes, we will prepare a personal quote for you.

Can the woman be examined by a female doctor?

Yes. A female doctor is available for examinations on request. Mention your preference when registering or tell us on the day — and it will be arranged.

What facilities does the hospital have?

Acibadem Hospital is a modern, JCI-accredited campus with its own IVF laboratory. Among other things, there is a prayer room, and the restaurants and hotels in the area cater to every dietary wish — halal is simply the norm in Turkey, and international cuisines are widely available too.

What happens to frozen embryos after the journey?

Good-quality embryos that are not transferred can remain stored at the hospital. You pay a yearly storage fee for this, directly to the hospital, for as long as the law permits storage. The embryos remain yours together and are only used with the consent of both partners.

How am I supported during the journey, and how do I register?

You have one fixed point of contact and can reach us via WhatsApp throughout the journey, and for urgent matters also in the evenings and at weekends. Registration is free of obligation via the form on the contact page; your details are reviewed by the IVF team in Istanbul and you receive a personal reply within 7 working days.
