Treatment only within marriage

Turkey's fertility law is among the clearest in the world: treatment only within marriage, exclusively with your own eggs and sperm. These rules are no accident — they are rooted in a centuries-old ethical tradition about lineage, parenthood and the position of the child. This page explains that tradition, and what it means for your treatment.

What the law says

In Turkey, fertility treatment is legally reserved for couples who are married to each other. Treatment takes place exclusively with your own eggs and sperm.

As a result, the following are not possible in Turkey:

Egg donation
Sperm donation
Embryo donation
Surrogacy
Sex selection — choosing the sex of the embryo

Sex selection is not permitted in Turkey. This applies when genetic testing is carried out as well: PGT-A examines embryos for an abnormal number of chromosomes, and is not used to choose a boy or a girl.

What this means for your IVF treatment

For you it comes down to three things:

You provide proof of your legal marriage in advance, in the form of a marriage book or marriage certificate.
Both of you are present during treatment. This also applies to the transfer of a frozen embryo.
Couples who do not meet these conditions are couples we cannot help.
